Gorgeous & Stunning (Kaleigh & William’s Wedding)

The words Gorgeous & Stunning  fall short when describing Kaleigh and William’s June 8th, 2013 Wedding at The Harvest Bible Chapel and The Newberry Library in Chicago. I met Kaleigh at The Wedding Salon’s Chicago Bridal Event last Spring. Kaleigh won our Lavish Package and then chose to have us to do her flowers as well! I am a beyond thrilled to show you a wedding long in the making.

Like most Brides, Kaleigh had a lot of ideas and kept being bombarded with new ideas from several different outlets (magazines, movies, friends and Pinterest). Kaleigh came in and the first step was to create a Private Board on Pinterest and only move ideas and themes that she really gravitated towards. We had to weed out the “hasty pins.”

Looking back at Kaleigh’s original design board, her theme and vision changed somewhat but overall concept stayed the same: Understated Elegance with a subtle Vintage feel.

Now take a look at her Personals. I think we found a perfect fusion of each of Kaleigh’s wants and visions. What do you think?

We played around a bit with the color distribution and shades but this color pallet is breathtaking!

Every part of this summer wedding was picturesque.  Here are some of our favorite shots from before the ceremony (taken in Washington Square Park).

My personal favorite moment to have captured is when the Groom sees his Bride for the first time! The  faces are always different but never the less adorable. Here’s our fun 1st Look Photos.

I will mention all of the amazing vendors that worked on Kaleigh and Bill’s wedding at the end of this blog but wanted to give a special thanks to Evan Hunt of Evan Hunt Photography for taking such spectacular photos and getting this one in particular!

I was just talking to a Bride who mentioned that they wished their photographer had gotten this image. Such a great shot!

On to the reception! (Which was conveniently right across the street!)

I love The Newberry Library mainly because of its history. It has that old book smell, dim lighting and amazing fixtures and marble everywhere. Ruggles Hall is always a mesmerizing room and even more so with the amber uplighting we added!

It was great to finally see the centerpieces complete. They looked fantastic in the Hall, especially with the reflections from the lighting. I also think it was great that we opted for  high and low arrangements. This gives the room more dimension and is extremely pleasing to the eye.

I loved Kaleigh & William’s centerpiece for many reasons but the 31inch Mercury Vase was a perfect addition. I am a fan of looser tall centerpieces, this enables you to use statement blooms and greenery  and not having a sphere of flowers.

I love when couples do a Sweetheart Table! It draws the attention even more so towards the Bride and gives me a chance to adorn their table in lush floral arrangements and in Kaleigh & William’s case, make it more personal. (Their & sign gave it that vintage touch Kaleigh was looking for).

The beautiful couple ended their night in a horse drawn carriage.  Kaleigh & Bill’s wedding was a blast to design! I wish them nothing but the best and hope they had a fabulous Honeymoon in Ambergris Caye, Beliza!

Best Dressed

Once again, Lea Michelle does not disappoint. She looked radiant in her Valentino. Someone her age (26) should be playing with colors, different styles of dresses and different designers. I love that every dress she wears compliments a different feature of her body. Her Golden Globes dress, showed off her toned legs and the dress now- shows off her decollage.

It was nice to see something that didn’t look like a Great Gatsby remake (yes, we get it…the movie is coming out soon). Love the era (1920’s) but enough is enough.

I am happy to be able to put Jessica Chastain on my best dressed this time (was one the worst last time). She kind of resembles Jessica Rabbit and I LOVE IT! Her Alexander McQueen gown showed off her awesome curves and complimented her fair skin and fiery hair. A step up from her not too tailored threads at the Golden Globes. 

Kerry Washington is another star that didn’t make on the best dressed last time but here she is now.  I would have still liked to see a red lip. She looked gorgeous in the two piece Rodarte gown with an embellished, double v-spilt bodice and silver-lace hem. The Scandal starlet beautifully paired her Fred Leighton jewels, her Judith Leiber snakeskin clutch and white python Christian Louboutin heels.

Black was running rampant on the red carpet at the 19th Annual SAG Awards. There were several stars spotted in gorgeous black gowns but these three women (left) picked the right dress, cut and accessories for their body types.

Modern Family’s Julie Bowen wore a leather gown with   rhinestone/stud shoulder pads by Johanna Johnson.

I am a BIG fan of Naya Rivera. (middle) She is the cutest thing and is such a great role model. On top of that, the girl knows how to dress! Her Donna Karan Atelier gown looked amazing and the peek-a-boo neckline gave the dress an extra pop.

Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) showed some “side boob” and still managed to make it look classy. Who says well endowed women can’t rock this particular style? She looked amazing in the vintage Chado Ralph Rucci gown. Paired with her side quaff and dark lipstick, this outfit gets an A+.

****Late Edition*** Jamie Alexander looked Goddess-like in her Marc Bouwer black gown. I wanted to add this dress because I remember seeing it on the carpet, but no one interviewed her and I never had a chance to find out who she was or who she was wearing. This dress is absolutely one of the most breath-taking gowns I have ever seen. What do you think?

Les Miserables star, Amanda Seyfried looked beautiful in the Zac Posen curve-huggging gown. I loved that she added the Lorraine Schwartz necklace to “tone down” the gown. The train was also eye-catching and according to Amanda, “really heavy”. This navy color on both Amanda and Jennifer (and Giuliana R.) is gorgeous and I hope we only see more and more of this color.

Ellie Kemper’s Reem Acra gown looked amazing against her skin tone and red hair. Sea foam (turquoise/green) really does amazing things to someone with her complexion. Jessica Chastain wore this same color to the Golden Globes.

Jennifer Lawrence looked dazzling even though she said she had walking pneumonia the previous day. No one would have been able to tell the way she rocker the Christian Dior Navy Blue gown. I didn’t think it was Best Dressed worthy simply because there was no WOW factor, no element of surprise. Im sure she will be wearing something Dior for the remainder of the awards season and thats fine but I want something new now.

Kaley Cuoco’s Ramona Kaveeza dress is extremely cute and would have looked great on her BUT either she is curtseying or the hem needs to be raised. It makes her appear to have a weirdly shaped figure and almost look pear shaped. Her makeup is off AGAIN  and her hair isn’t doing it for me this time either. I think a soft up do would have shown off the neckline more and a dark lip would have brightened up her washed out complexion.

I cant stand to look at Morena Baccarin’s Basil Soda dress for too long. At certain angles the dress was stunning and then it would look horribly horribly wrong. While her makeup is flawless and her body looks amazing, a better dress needed to have been chosen for such a beautiful woman.

Goal Complete! 1 hour before E! Fashion Police. See what I said, see what they say and then tell me what you think!

The Golden Globes 2013

 A Fashion Breakdown

I took my time with this post so I could add a Trend Watch; for the upcoming Awards Season and tie that in with Bridal Gowns and Color Pallets.  You will also get my personal favorites, who I think, “Wore it Best/Worst” and a few categories I made up while drafting.

Lets start out with the worst just so it can only get better from here.

When I say “Worst” I don’t necessarily mean the dress was horrible. It may have just not worked for that particular persons’ body type or complexion. I tried to stay as positive as possible and sadly, three of my favorite TV personalities are below.

It was harder than last year to pick my worst and these aren’t really even that bad.  Simple alterations for Nene and Jessica and a second thought before leaving the hotel may have spared Lena & Giuliana’s Red Carpet woes.

Now that the hard part is over lets look at the gowns that received criticism and if whether it was warranted.

Before I share my favorites, take a look at the gowns below. Do any of the cuts remind you of Wedding Gown Trends you have seen anywhere else?

And lastly, dresses that were gorgeous on women even more beautiful but their makeup took away from their gown and their complexion.

How to To Design your Wedding Party Attire

Designing Your Wedding Party Attire

Sometimes choosing your bridal parties attire is more than difficult. Even when you have your color scheme/theme, sometimes it just doesn’t come together. It’s fine to take your time but not being able pin this down, slows the production time on fittings and getting the dresses to all of your bridesmaids in time for more fittings and alterations. This also puts your design process to a halt too. When you haven’t chosen your bridesmaid dress color, you do not know what color their shoes and flowers will be. This makes it hard to approve any of the several floral design proposals I am sure are looming in your inbox.

Here are some steps to expedite the process and a website you can go to design your wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses.

1. Start with yourself. What color is your wedding dress? (white, off-white, cream, ivory, etc…) Ivory
2. What is your color scheme/theme? (Anchor color, supporting color, accent color) Bright Coral, Beige and Moss Green with a theme of modern edginess with old fashion undertones.
3. What color bouquet do you want? Different shades of coral
4. Do you want your bridesmaids to have matching bouquets to yours in color (not in size) or different? Different in size and one color.                                                                                                          You now know what color your bouquet is and that you want your bridesmaids’ bouquets to be different sizes and one color not two. Now what color to use?
5. What color do you want your bridesmaids’ dresses? (try not to use your anchor color, unless you wanted to do a varying shade of that color) Green, ivory and coral
6. What color is your Fiancé Tuxedo? Groomsmen? Beige Tuxedo, Coral Vest, Tie or Bow-tie 

With all of these questions having answers it makes it easier to see your floral story. Take a look at the design board I whipped up to demonstrate how to translate your color scheme into your wedding attire.

If your Groom has the same color boutonniere as your bouquet it will add a very pretty symmetry in your photographs. You then can have the groomsmen’ boutonnieres match the bridesmaids. Ivory with touches of lush greens.

As promised. More for you Wedding Party Attire. I especially love dressing up Men. Most do not know what compliments them and this is one of the only times the Bride has more control in exactly how her Groom will look. So lets take advantage of this gift!

I really hope to see some pops of color in the groom and/or groomsmen this season. Whether its in the tie, the vest, a bow-tie or in the boutonniere, color blocking can and should be used in the Groom & Groomsmen’s attire.

Two of the five weddings we have in June 2013 have the Groom and Groomsmen wearing shades of Grey. I am thrilled. I love how grey looks against a blue sky and more importantly how soft of a color it can be. They will make for great pictures.

It doesn’t take long to figure out what color your Fiancé’s Tuxedo will be and the Groomsmen fall quickly behind. What is difficult is how to incorporate your beautiful, sometimes girly, color scheme into the Groom’s attire without clashing. As for most women’s wedding plans, the Groom comes last :).
